There are a few ways to delete messages on your iPhone, depending on whether you want to delete a single message, multiple messages, or an entire conversation.

  • Delete a single message:

  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Go to the conversation that contains the message you want to delete.
  3. Swipe left on the message.
  4. Tap the Trash icon.

  • Delete multiple messages:

  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Go to the conversation that contains the messages you want to delete.
  3. Tap and hold on a message bubble.
  4. Tap "More."
  5. Tap the circles next to the messages you want to delete.
  6. Tap the Trash icon in the bottom left corner.
  7. Tap "Delete" to confirm.

  • Delete an entire conversation:

  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. In the list of conversations, swipe left on the conversation you want to delete.
  3. Tap the Trash icon.
  4. Tap "Delete" to confirm.

  • Here are some additional things to keep in mind:

  • Deleting messages on your iPhone will not delete the message for the other person in the conversation.

  • You can also delete attachments, such as photos and videos, from messages. To do this, tap the attachment, then tap the Trash icon.

  • Messages that you delete are not stored in iCloud. Once you delete a message, it's gone for good. However, there is a short window of time where you might be able to recover a deleted message using the "Recently Deleted" feature in Messages [Recover deleted messages on iPhone, Apple Support].
