Yogurt is safe at room temperature for a limited time.  Here's the general guideline:

* **2 hours:** Unrefrigerated yogurt can safely sit out for up to 2 hours at temperatures up to 90°F (32°C).

* **1 hour:** If the temperature is above 90°F (32°C), it's best to limit unrefrigerated yogurt to 1 hour.

**Why the Time Limit?**

Yogurt contains live and active cultures that continue to multiply even after the yogurt is produced.  At room temperature, this multiplication can happen faster, increasing the risk of spoilage by harmful bacteria.

**Signs of Spoiled Yogurt:**

* **Sour smell:** A strong or unpleasant odor is a clear sign of spoilage.

* **Mold:** Visible mold growth indicates spoilage.

* **Separation:**  Some whey separation is normal, but excessive liquid or curdling can indicate spoilage.

* **Off flavor:** If the yogurt tastes off or sour, it's best to discard it.

**Tips:**

* Refrigerate yogurt as soon  as you get home from the store and after each use.

*  Store yogurt towards the back of the fridge where it's colder.

* For longer storage, yogurt can be frozen for up to 2 months.
