Most cars have  **two axles**.  An axle is a rod that a pair of wheels rotates around.  So, a typical car with four wheels will have two axles - one for the front wheels and another for the rear wheels.

However, there are some exceptions:

*  **Larger vehicles:** Larger vehicles that carry more passengers or cargo, like SUVs or trucks, may have three or even four axles depending on the number of wheels.
